Madrid: This was the first (and only) team from Europe to compete in the solar decathlon. The overall design was certainly clever enough - the center section moves out on tracks to create an open courtyard in the center of the house for passive cooling - but the craftsmanship and materials looked like they suffered a bit from the long trip across the ocean.
This is the section that moves out to create the courtyard. It was closed when we saw it.
This house also used phase-change gel material to store and distribute energy, located beneath the floor. Grates on either side of the house allowed for air distribution across the space.
This was a movable wall system that locked down to the floor to create a fixed room divider.
