| On Saturday, March 22nd, we drove to New York City to join in the protest against the war in Iraq by marching down Broadway. The crowd was huge. 200,000 people showed up that day to march for peace. At the time, we didn't know just how big the crowd was, but we figured it was big, because we stood in the crowded street for over 2 hours before we were actually able to walk. We were near the end of the march, so he had to allow 200,000 people in front of us to move on before we could start walking. What we experienced was a very peaceful crowd, energized, and diverse. Who marched? The official list of participants included: Military families. Veterans. 9/11 Families. Kids. Religious groups. Labor. Not In Our Name. Students and Youth. People of Color Groups. Greens. ANSWER. THAW - Theater Against the War. In addition, we saw Greeks for Peace, Educators for Peace, Dancers for Peace, Queers for Peace, Cabaret Singers for Peace, and one woman dressed as a blindfolded Statue of Liberty. Below are some photos that appeared in the newspaper or on the local news. Above are some of our own photos that we took that day. |
