| theBusheys.com > photos > Germany and Switzerland August 2008: We just returned from our family trip to Germany for Tanja and Jochen's wedding. While there, we spent 4 days with everyone in Munich, then the 3 of us went on to visit Zurich and Lucern, Switzerland.
This is the view of the Rathaus (the old Town Hall) in Marienplatz, in the center of Munich. We climbed the stairs of the nearby church tower, but Anna chose to stay on the ground with Grandma and Grandpa.
At the nearby market, we came across one of many public water fountains that can be found throughout the city. Here Anna is washing off the chocolate ice cream that she had moments before.
The day of the wedding. Anna was the flower-girl, and she loved being the prettiest little girl there.
The reception hall was located in the English Garden, and Anna was thrilled to see that there was a playground right next door. We let her have some fun in her wedding dress.
This is Nymphenburg Palace, a grand Baroque palace that was the summer home of the rulers of Bavaria, dating from the 1600s. We didn't have a lot of time so we spent it wandering around the grounds.
After Germany it was on to Switzerland. We spent 2 days in Zurich. We stayed within the old city, which is very walkable. The streets along the river are for pedestrians and streetcars only.
Our next stop was the city of Lucern. Here is the old wooden bridge that crosses the river, with the Alps rising in the background.
On the last full day of our vacation, we took a trip to to the top of one of the nearby mountaings. From Lucern, we took the train 30 minutes to the base of the mountain, where we boarded a cog railway. Halfway up, we transfered to this cablecar which brought us up to 6,300 feet for an amazing view across the landscape. We hiked a bit around the paths on the top before heading back down.
